The Event

5 & 6 September 2015, Quai de Pénichespercursion1000 Bruxelles.

The Brussels World Percussion Festival, is the first ever percussion based world-music and dance festival, made in Belgium. Being Belgium a multicultural country there are many kinds of percussion groups based here that came from all over the world as from, South America, Africa, Middle East, Asia and from many different countries of Europe. It is this multiculturalism that we want to present to the eyes and ears of all people living in Belgium.

Through concerts, performances, exhibitions, workshops, master classes, jam sessions and activities for the kids and families, we offer enriching experiences in close contact with all kinds of cultures. These cultures are present in the daily lives of people but that maybe pass by without being noticed. We nurture better mutual cultural understanding.

The workshops and master classes with several renowned masters of percussion will take place during the festival it self. They will bring together musicians that are now starting their career with already established ones.

The World Percussion festival is a two-day event. It’s program includes several performances of percussion based world-music and dance. Two stages for concerts and a space for music and dance workshops and animations will host participants.

Jam sessions will be happening in between the concerts in order to bring together the musicians of different cultures and different backgrounds creating a moment where knowledge and experience can be shared.

The festival arena will also host different kinds of stands. Informative stands from several multicultural associations based in Brussels. Handcraft stands from artists of different origins and types of work. Food and drink stands that can offer participants the opportunities to sample food and drinks from different countries.

The festival is also an event for proposing activities for the children lead by associations that work in this area, in infrastructures where they can play safely.

Besides the multicultural side of the festival we haves as a long-term intention to create new experiences bringing together traditional and contemporary music and dance.

For Whom

It’s a free charge festival for all kinds of audiences including families, to youth and seniors of all kinds of origins and cultures.

How it Started

Within a group of several musicians working in the Belgian music scene, emerged the need to create an event focused on percussion. An event that could bring together different cultures and traditions. An event that could provide the space for established musicians to share they’re experiences with musicians starting now their careers. An event for people in general to understand what’s behind the different rhythms of the different countries, an event for people to get to know other cultures from a human and musical point of view.
