Peru Specialty Coffee Mission
Cajamarca – Amazonas

8 – 15/09/2018

Belgium is a country with a long tradition in coffee trading and roasting and from the beginning Peru has been one of Belgium’s favourite green coffee suppliers. The Peruvian coffee sector has developed the cultivation process of specialty coffee spectacularly and is ready to show Belgian professionals their facilities in a mission organised by OCEX Bruselas and PromPeru.

Specialty coffee is coffee made of beans of the best flavour and has a score of 80 or above on a 100-point scale. They have little or no defects and are of a very high quality. Peru’s exceptional climate makes it the most fit country for cultivation of specialty coffee beans. American and European consumers are big fans of the specialty coffee trend and Peru has been able to become the number one provider of this type of coffee to them.

To come to high quality specialty coffee, one has to master the production process of coffee from the planting of the seeds to the preparation of the coffee itself by the barista. Getting to know the coffee growers is hence a crucial aspect of the work of a coffee roaster or coffee trader. In addition, European consumers are more and more sensitive about the origin of the products both for fair trade as for sustainability reasons.

To give European roasters and traders the opportunity to increase their knowledge about the Peruvian specialty coffee sector, OCEX Bruselas and PromPeru are organising a mission to the Rodríguez de Mendoza region in Peru.
