The Institute of Latin American Studies (LAI) combines research about Latin America in the area of the social sciences, with teaching and public information about the continent. The institute has both ordinary staff positions and a number of guests and associate scholars. It also houses the Latin American library, one of the most important collections about Latin America from a social science perspective in the Nordic countries.
The Institute is currently accepting applications from prospective associate scholars for the academic year 2018. Applicants are welcome to apply for a period between January 2018 and December 2018.
Associate scholars are expected to participate actively in LAI’s academic work, particularly in its research seminars and open lectures. Associate scholars admitted under this program are eligible for grants for proofreading, to publish articles in the institute’s journal, Iberoamericana. Nordic Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Depending on the availability of space and the list of priorities decided by our Department, it is the ambition of LAI to be able to offer office space and computer use at the institute. LAI cannot offer associate scholars any kind of remuneration or grants, except for the above mentioned.
Candidates are expected to be either Ph. D.-students, to have a doctoral degree, or to have equivalent career experience with Latin America related issues in line with the research orientation of LAI. Candidates will be admitted based on their previous work and prior collaboration with the institute; the themes of research that they propose; and practical considerations. All this in relation to the objectives of the institute and the rules of the Department of Romance Studies and Classics. We give special priority to those candidates that intend to apply for external research funding to be placed at the institute.
