2017 International Economic Forum Latin America and the Caribbean. Paris, France

2016 marked the second consecutive year of negative economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean, a situation not seen in the region since the 1980s. While the region should rebound in 2017 with expected GDP growth at 1.2%, these projected levels are insufficient to pursue policies undertaken in the last decade to reduce poverty and create jobs, especially for the youth who represent 25% of the region’s population.

These topics will be at the heart of the 9th International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean on “Rethinking globalisation for youth and inclusive development.” The 2017 Forum will take place in Paris on June 9th, back to back to OECD Week and in the context of the Latin America and Caribbean Week. This event is a joint effort between the Inter-American Development Bank, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of France, and the OECD Development Centre.

In addition to analysing the region’s macroeconomic outlook, the 2017 Forum will focus on the impact of new global economic and trade policies on Latin American and Caribbean economies. Participants will discuss the importance of revitalising the regional integration process and the potential for reviving the regional economy through youth entrepreneurship.

The event gathers leaders from the public and private sectors as well as high-level representatives from international organisations to discuss different aspects of the region’s economic development.

Such participants include:

–        Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of Peru
–        Jimmy Morales, Président of Guatemala
And
–        Ángel Gurría, Secretary-General, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD
–        Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, France
–        Luís Alberto Moreno, President, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)
