El Presidente de Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos viajo hacia seis capitales europeas para pedir a los diferentes líderes políticos de esos Estados la creación de un fondo que, a través de la Unión Europea (UE), permita ayudar a financiar el postconflicto con las Farc.
Esas seis ciudades han sido París, Berlín, Bruselas, Madrid, Lisboa y Londres. Estuvo acompañado por una comitiva presidida por la canciller María Ángela Holguín. La idea efectivamente era hablarle a los países del proceso de paz, y lo que podría ser una situación de postconflicto», comentó la ministra.
Santos afirmó que la idea de conseguir mayor apoyo internacional fue abordada con el secretario general de Naciones Unidas, Ban Ki-moon, durante la última Asamblea General de este organismo, celebrada la semana pasada.
Hace dos años ha iniciado el actual proceso de paz el cual se encuentran en el cuarto de los cinco puntos que contiene la agenda, por lo que, a juicio del mandatario, la consecución de un eventual acuerdo podría producirse en un periodo relativamente breve.
Por esta razón, su intención ha sido la de buscar apoyo internacional, como sucedió en la ultima Asamblea General de la ONU, en lo que ha calificado como «una especie de Plan Marshall» para la paz, donde espera que la Unión Europea colabore.
El presidente colombiano, Juan Manuel Santos, obtuvo la promesa de que la Unión Europea (UE) ofrecerá «asistencia financiera» a Colombia para implementar un proceso de paz con el que se busca poner fin a 50 años de conflicto. Pero esto será sólo cuando se firme dicha paz con las FARC.
«La UE seguirá dando su apoyo a las negociaciones de La Habana, también estamos listos para dar asistencia concreta a Colombia en la implementación del proceso de paz» cuando ésta se alcance, sostuvo Herman Van Rompuy, presidente del Consejo europeo en una declaración a la prensa luego de reunirse con Santos.»Tenemos que llevarles a los mandatarios europeos y estamos estructurando, los proyectos específicos, que tienen que ser estructurados de acuerdo a las necesidades de cada región de Colombia. La paz va a ser muy territorial», explicó.
Asimismo, Santos destacó que el sector privado internacional «está interesadísimo» en el postconflicto, y citó como ejemplo a Noruega, país que actúa como «garante» en el actual proceso de paz.

Saying that he came to Europe to seek the support from Europe for the peace negotiation process and he is very grateful for the support given.
Saying that Europe had shown the world that it is possible to leave the war behind you and to build together peace, now it is Colombia’s turn to do so.
Saying to the MEPs that still have doubts concerning the role of the victims in the peace process, there he wanted to reassure them, because the victims are put in the centre of attention of all efforts to reach peace. And he underlined that the government wants to protect their rights. There is direct contact to them; they listen carefully to them, what is actually quite unique.
